Above is our new logo, designed here in our community by Trina Roache. You’ll see this logo soon at the park site on the HRM sign. She did an excellent job. Many thanks to Trina for taking time out of her busy schedule to design and refine this for us.

We also have a new web address: www.lostcreekresidents.ca is working now and will replace www.lostcreekpark.ca as our main address online. www.lostcreekpark.ca will continue to direct people to our site for the time being as well.

Park Opening BBQ – Request for Volunteers

This community would do well to have a Park Opening / Family BBQ Celebration.

The swings are up at the site. And there are indications of some more landscaping taking place around the primary playground structure…….indications for us to move forward as well.
So, this is a call for committee members/volunteers to help organize a Park Opening BBQ / Family Party.

If there is enough interest and we get some committed volunteers we will hold a committee meeting in the next week or two. Even if you don’t want to be heavily involved in the planning or organizing, you could just help out the day of the event. We’ve done an incredible job the last few years and look at what we’ve accomplished. So please, if you can, drop us a line at lostcreekresidents@gmail.com

Park update and our community’s role.

As many of you are aware, the playground part of the park is built on Heatherglen Drive. It looks great so far and it’s being used quite a bit already by lots of kids and families.

The park was designed primarily for the 5 to 12 year age group but we also have a few things for toddlers to use there as well, such as the ‘Lady Bug’ ride.

There is quite a bit of landscaping left to do and also the trail system construction which will likely start as the ground dries out a bit in the coming month or two. There is going to be a picnic shelter with a couple of tables under it. We’re getting a few more benches and some picnic tables which will be strategically placed around the site. Garbage cans should be there soon as well.

Although the site is owned and operated by HRM, we as a community need to take ‘ownership’ of it; in a manner of speaking. We need to guard it and foster it. Its there for everyone to enjoy and use. So treat it like its ‘your park’. Tell your kids. Take pride in it and what we’ve accomplished in a few short years.

Our message is this: there may be some who may not respect and value it as much as we do. Keep an eye on it when you can. Its closed thru the night, so if you see people there who shouldn’t be, be it teens at night or adults up to no good; call the police (244-7208). Report it to HRM (490-4000).

This was a significant investment in our community by three main groups: each family in Lost Creek (your yearly area rate charge + our community fundraising), the province ($50,000) and HRM ($50,000+ the councillor’s contributions).

More Car Break Ins

Be on the look out for criminals. There have been reports – Again – of cars being broken into in Lost Creek , Kinsac Rd., William Nelson Dr., Jamie Dr. etc. It happened this past Sunday. Sometime after the Superbowl.

To discourage these criminals; please consider the following:

Keep outdoor lights on at night.
Activate your home alarms - while your home and away.
Keep your cars locked or leave nothing in them of any value; not even your mailbox key or spare change!
Use your vehicle alarm if you have one.
Do not leave anything in your car that you would not want to lose.
Call the Mounties if you find someone breaking into your car or home. The number is 244.7208.
Speak to your neighbors about this and watch out for each other.

You can also report suspicious vehicles driving around the neighborhood. Usually these criminals scope out a place before they make their move. Do not hesitate to call the police if you see a vehicle driving slowly around or making several passes on the street.

Beaver Bank Kinsac Lions Club Hosting Friday Evening Meals.

The Lions Den in Beaver Bank has been hosting Friday Evening suppers for some time now. From what we hear its an excellent meal served by freindly faces and the price can’t be beat. Here is this week’s invitation from Lion Randy:

“This week’s menu will consist of French Fries and Fresh Vegetables…along with an a la carte menu. Of which some (but not all) are listed below.

Pan Fried Haddock, Butterfly Pork chops, Chicken Breast, Hot Turkey and many more . $6.00 We also encourage you to bring the kids. If children are wee tikes…smaller kid portions are available. Bring a friend or neighbor and sit and enjoy the friendly atmosphere of BBK Lions Den. I look forward to having a “Beaverage” with you.

Construction of the Playground Equipment Started December 13, 2011.

Here is what the playground equipment will look like. We’ve been told it should be going in thru November!!! Remember this is just one item that will make up the park. In addition to this there will be a graded landscaped open play area, walking trails, a couple of picnic tables and several benches. Also in the works is a covered picnic area whitch will be great for kids and parents to get some shade.

We will have to form a ‘Park Grand Opening’ committee thru the winter to plan for a family fun day at the park in the spring. That should be lots of fun for everyone.

We’ll put out a call for committee members after Christmas. Please consider helping out. If no one volunteers, its likely not going to happen.

Have you seen the proposed District Boundaries for our area?

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board has ruled that HRM council is to be reduced from 23 to 16 councillors. This means the districts each councillor represents will be changed as well. There are 2 different scenarios being shown on HRM’s website. We would encourage everyone to take 10 or 15 minutes and look over these proposals and make your voice heard at a public meeting OR the Municipal Clerks office if you have any questions or concerns.
